Many people do not know this, but you can have a Google account without having a Gmail email account. This is beneficial in this case because in order to have access to your new google drive you will need to create a google account that is accessible using your everyday professional email address.
Here is how you can create a Google Account using your email address instead of creating a Gmail email address. Please note: IN ORDER TO HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE YOU MUST HAVE A GOOGLE ACCOUNT.

That’s it. You now have a Google Account that you can sign in with your non-Gmail email address and the password you set up in step 2. Now, whenever you get a request to collaborate on a Google Doc or Google Drive item at that address, you’ll be able to view it as long as you are logged into that account.
